Videos from Ray’s Odd Couple Contest (updated)
by taj on Feb.11, 2009, under Uncategorized
This was a contest where 6 teams of one mountain biker and one BMXer filmed a video over 2 days of riding Ray’s MTB park in Cleveland, Ohio. We ended up with 2nd place for this video. I don’t know if any of the other videos are up yet, but if I find them I’ll add them here.
Thanks to Jeff (my MTB teammate) and George Ryan (our filmer and editor).

Contest at Ray’s MTB
by taj on Feb.07, 2009, under Uncategorized
Just finished the Odd Couple contest at Ray’s MTB. What a blast. The contest was for 6 teams of 2 riders. Each team was composed of one mountain biker and one BMXer. We all had two days inside Ray’s to film a video and then show it to an audience on the 3rd day.
I got really beat up… my ankle and shins and knee have seen better days! Super fun contest though. Every team made such unique videos and riders found really cool ways to ride the park.
I can’t remember all the placings, but Justin Simpson and Greg Watts team ended up taking home the first place prize. Jeff Lenosky and I took home 2nd (with the help of our filmer and editor George Ryan) and Aaron Chase an Kevin Porter ended up with third.
Some of the teams did full on skits and acting, but our video was mostly riding. We did this one though, I headed into the curved wallride and there is a point where you can’t see me anymore. We cut the footage and inserted throwing this dummy dressed as me out of the wallride.
Such a good comp. I guess the videos will get posted online or something soon. They’re all worth watching and most have some pretty funny moments for sure.
2nd place trophy and I won the Man-up award… which is a interesting trophy choice eh?
Thee “Ray”.
I was only joking about the bike of the future in my last post, I didn’t know it already existed!
Rays MTB and Roscoe Bike Video

This isn’t the best quality, but what can you expect when you have Sandy Carson riding behind you with your digital camera taped to his helmet. This is the Roscoe bike is action! Sorry I didn’t edit out the wind noise.
Here is a rad quick shot of Sandy going through the small box jump section. Sorry I didn’t edit the wind noise on this video either.
Below is a bunch of pictures of Ray’s MTB. If you click these photos you can see them a bit bigger since they are so detailed.
This room has lots of off roading obstacles.
This is one of the skatepark rooms. Foam pit, resi, all the modern conveniences.
The Skatepark area at Ray’s is completely awesome on its own. But keep in mind there is another 85,000 square feet out there to ride!
Part of the big box line. up at the top is the Kenda hip.
On the left is the pump track, on the right is some smaller stuff.
The above two photos are two different sections that both make you feel like you are in a miniature golf course, or maybe a human sized pinball machine.
Improve your balance!
Yeah, my new sponsor has its own wallride here.
180 degree curved wallrides are fun.
Berms are my favorite.
Pump track section.
The Holiday Inn thinks my name is Paj.

I can’t remember the last time I was this excited about a trip.
Tomorrow morning I head to NYC to play the CMJ Festival with the Snake Trap. We have two shows up there, one on Friday and one on Saturday. Should be awesome fun to play.
After a couple days in NYC I head out to Cleveland to meet up with my bikes and friends at Rays MTB park. John Povah, Sandy Carson, Alex Perez and maybe Ron Kimler are all going to meet me there for a few days of riding. I truly think that Ray’s might well be the funnest place I have ever ridden a bike. Its makes you feel like you are inside a pinball machine or maybe riding a oversized miniature golf course. Its also one of those places that is so fun to take new people to. Kimler, Sandy and Alex have never been there so I can’t wait to show them around and see how crazy they think it is. I recommend a trip to Rays to everyone out there… it really is something unique. They even have a deal where the hotel by the airport will shuttle you to the park for free, so you don’t even need to rent a car if you fly into Cleveland for a session.
After Ray’s Povah and I are continuing on down to Baco Jam in Florida. I still don’t have a costume for myself, but my bike’s costume is incredible. I can’t wait to post some pictures. Sandy said he’d shoot some photos for me up at Ray’s so I will post some then.
Ok, off to finish packing… and yes, even that is fun today. Since I shipped my BMX and MTB up to Ray’s I don’t even have to pack a bike. Just one little carry on and I’m rolling.
