i laughed out loud at the bmx bike 2-5 years away. so true!

Absolutely hilarious! I’ll stick with my first generation 21 inch Barcode Frame. Under about 2 coats of paint Nate Wessel’s signature is on it. I haven’t ridden it in a while but recently refreshed the parts (brakes, tires) from Albes and it is still a rock solid shredder pretty light to boot! Even if I ever stop riding all together I will never get rid of that bike.

Good stuff. I was thinking the same thing when I saw a razor kid at the brooklyn banks emulating bmx, and killing it. I asked the kid why he doesn’t ride bmx and he says, whats the difference? My sentiments exactly.
I saw a post on SPRFLS and really took to one of the comments. I’ve been the first to hate on ‘kids’ because of the short posts/frames/pants/whatever, and it really does perpetuate a cycle of weird animosity between bmxers of different generations. Young kids looking at older riders as “weird old dudes” and older dudes looking at kids like they’re fags. I guess the same thing happened in skateboarding and now you have the shred dogs in rector fatboys killing pools and younger, scenester kids doing every kickflip variation possible on a three set. You think there’s no sh*t talking between them? Thankfully theres guys like Tony Trujillo that transcend the generations and are an awesome blend of both. I think the same guys will really stand out in bmx. Those that hold true to their own style.
BMX is growing/evolving/maturing into what it is now, and the truth is it sucks for riders that have been around for anymore than 10 years. On so many different levels, the newer generation will never see bmx in the same light as us. The fact that there’s 10 times as many riders/companies/skateparks/media sources/etc. now than there was 10 years ago is a start. BMX/Freestyle was a different game then.
At the same time, I will never understand the fascination with scooter bikes and half the trends going on. Either way I’ll continue riding the same way because I enjoy it.
And you know, maybe its healthy for the newer generation to get harassed for a bit. Earn their keep if you will.

Heres another thing to consider.. if every new company (and some of the older companies) are all following the same trends, producing gross skooter bikes and garbage components, then it leaves other companies like T1, solid, and credence to continue producing legitimate bikes.

holy shit this post is epic……….. LOL I was talking to some of “the guys” about this well up to the scooter that is.

  • elmer fudd

oh and I should add, there is this local, he changed my mind on those scooter things. he is crazy and when he falls he eats it hard. he does backfilp combos, quad tailwips, but what makes him good… or better then the others is he goes huge and catches everything like 2 feet before he lands. he was working on a new trick last monday. its a full barspin but he never takes his hand of the bar. not like a bus driver but a clenched fist. looked painful.

sooo true. in a couple years everyones gonna be riding trials frames. then scooters. im not saying scooters are bad, my friends who scooters are beasts, its just bmx shouldnt go this way.

oh, and to elmer fudd, that trick is a bar-twist. Its like a barspin, but you keep one hand on.. hmmm what about trying that on a bike?

  • kibadanghi

excelent, now extrapolate a few tricks according to the trends into the future.
