New Mihelich

by taj | Dec 24, 2008 |

Last night I picked up a little 11 month old Corgi (possible mixed with a Shelty or something) from a Corgi rescue service.

Roscoe is stoked because it’s 24 hour party time now. They are so hilarious wrestling and chasing each other around.

This is Monty Mihelich.

Congratulations Taj. He’s got your eyes.

Nice pup! I always wondered what kind of dog Roscoe was. Given I don’t have much of a choice when perusing the rescue dogs websites but I’d like to find one like Roscoe eventually.

    Thanks!

Actually, Roscoe is an Australian Cattle Dog (sometimes known as a blue heeler). I found him through a rescue as well. Look up ACD Rescue or Australian Cattle Dog rescue and you’ll probably find one in your area.

Taj, how old was Roscoe when you got him, I have an almost year old cattle dog and he is very high energy, your dog looks so chill in all the pics I see, I hope mine calms down a bit.

His short little arms remind me of the picture of you on a big wheel in the post about all your bikes.

I got roscoe when he was about 1, and yeah, he was pretty nutty. ACD’s are considered to be one of the highest energy dog breeds there is, and smartest. The combination is a handful. I was really lucky that in his most active years (he’s finally slowing at 9 now) I was working at T-1 most everyday. he got to come to work with me and play with whatever dudes were out riding the ramp in the backyard all day long. I also taught him to run behind my bike so I could tire him out that way. My highest recommondation for an ACD is to read up on and try clicker training. It so simple( I think I bought a 6 page book on it) and it will give him something to do. All they want to do is work for you, so if you can figure out how to communicate what you want from them they will be happy to do it.

Thanks Taj, Roscoe was definitely one of the reasons I originally wanted a cattle dog. I did a lot of research on the breed and actually found a breeder in my area so I had to get one. Mine has the running behind the bike down, or pulling me, but I’ll look into the clicker training.

Like the corgi! I originally wanted a Corgi (I even had a Corgi sticker on my car), but then I ended up finding a cattle dog (Luna) at teh SPCA shelter. She’s been great, I would reccommend getting a shelter dog. We also got our cat at the SPCA too.
